The United States has halted the evacuation of military aircraft from Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv as tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated.
According to Jin10, Israeli media reported on July 14 that The Times of Israel, citing Israel Airports Authority information, said the pause could create a shortage of parking stands at Ben Gurion Airport and disrupt Israel’s summer air travel, with up to about 50,000 tickets potentially canceled.
The report said that since February 28, when the United States and Israel launched military strikes on Iran, about 75 U.S. aerial refueling and transport aircraft have been parked long-term at Ben Gurion Airport as part of a U.S. effort to strengthen its regional military deployment.
It added that after the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding and regional tensions temporarily eased, the United States had at one point begun withdrawing some of the aerial refueling aircraft parked at the airport.
