According to Lianhe Zaobao citing Reuters, French firefighters on Tuesday, July 14, continued battling an out-of-control wildfire in the Fontainebleau forest southeast of Paris, with at least two people arrested on suspicion of starting the blaze. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said late Monday, July 13, that the main Fontainebleau fire and another nearby fire that started Monday afternoon had burned a combined 1,300 hectares, prompting the deployment of water-bombing aircraft and helicopters as the fire was only a few kilometers from the Palace of Fontainebleau. The fire, about 70 kilometers from Paris, forced the closure of the A6 highway linking Paris with Lyon and southern France, while other smaller fires in the region disrupted high-speed rail services; up to 900 people were reported evacuated. Darmanin said France has already seen 32,000 hectares burned this year, exceeding the total area burned in all of 2025, and added that 59 people nationwide have been arrested on suspicion of starting fires.
