Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said two supertankers lost their ability to navigate after being hit. According to Jin10, Tasnim News Agency reported that the IRGC said the vessels, described as violating rules and being incited by the United States, switched off their navigation systems and ignored repeated warnings from the Hormuz Strait Security Control Center.
The IRGC said the tankers insisted on passing through a mined area, endangering shipping safety along the route, and were later struck and rendered unable to sail.
