UKMTO: Tanker Hit by Unknown Projectile Near Oman; Crew Safe

According to Lianhe Zaobao citing Reuters, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) office said on Tuesday, July 14, that a tanker was hit by an unknown projectile about 40 nautical miles northeast of Qalhat, Oman. UKMTO said the incident was reported at 9:04 p.m. UTC on July 13 (5:04 a.m. Singapore time on July 14). The tanker’s captain reported the projectile struck the starboard side of the engine room; all crew were safe and no environmental pollution was reported. The United Arab Emirates said the same day that two UAE national tankers in the Strait of Hormuz were attacked by two Iranian cruise missiles, killing one Indian crew member and injuring eight others, including four seriously.
