Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died weeks after he was removed from FIFA’s list of World Cup officials following a UK police investigation, according to Yahoo Sports. Dieperink, 38, had been selected as a video assistant referee (VAR) but was dropped in May after being arrested by London’s Metropolitan Police in April following a report of a sexual assault against a teenage boy; police later said the case was dropped because the evidential threshold was not met. The KNVB said it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by his death, and no cause of death was disclosed.
