Police in South Africa are investigating the death of World Cup footballer Jayden Adams after his body was discovered at a property in Cape Town over the weekend, with authorities saying no cause of death has been released. Police said the body of a 25-year-old male was found in the Schotsche Kloof neighbourhood at around 11 a.m. on Saturday, and an inquest has been opened.

Adams had helped South Africa reach the knockout stage of a World Cup for the first time two weeks earlier and played in all three group games, but was not in the squad for the 1-0 round-of-32 loss to Canada on 28 June. South Africa Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie said Adams played a group match against the Czech Republic hours after learning of his grandmother’s death, and urged restraint while the investigation continues, according to Yahoo Sports.
