Samsung Electronics plans to bring forward mass production at the first wafer fabrication plant in South Korea’s Yongin National Semiconductor Industrial Complex by two years to October 2029, compared with its original 2031 target.
According to Odaily, industry sources said that despite market concerns about the chip sector reaching a peak, the global semiconductor supply-demand imbalance is continuing to worsen.
They added that as competition intensifies in the AI era, expanding chip production capacity as soon as possible has become the industry’s most urgent task.
