Brazilian police said they launched “Operation Veil of Maya,” carrying out nine search and seizure warrants simultaneously in Sao Paulo, Ribeirao Preto, Porto Alegre, and Canoas to target a money laundering network tied to 87 shell companies. Investigators said cryptocurrency primarily served as a tool for cross-border fund transfers within the alleged scheme. Suspects are accused of using shell companies to receive illicit income, convert the funds into crypto assets, and then move them overseas.
Police said those involved could face charges including money laundering, tax evasion, participation in organized crime, and other related offenses. Authorities have not disclosed the amount of money involved or the quantity of assets seized.
