Meta Platforms said it would add $40 billion more investment to its large data center campus in Louisiana as it expands its artificial intelligence computing footprint. According to Jin10, the company said the project in rural Louisiana would be expanded to at least 5 gigawatts (GW) of computing capacity, with total investment reaching $50 billion.

Meta had previously said it would invest $10 billion to build the data center and surrounding community. A report in May said Meta planned to put another $200 billion into the project, mainly to purchase expensive computing chips to be installed at the nearly 4,000-acre campus.

A person familiar with the matter said this would bring the project’s expected total investment to at least $250 billion. Meta has not disclosed any specific spending for the project beyond the $50 billion figure so far.
