AI TRENDS | China AI Model Weekly Token Usage Tops U.S. by More Than Fourfold, OpenRouter Data Shows

Global AI large-model token usage totaled 54.6 trillion tokens last week (July 6 to 12), up 12.6% from the prior week. According to Jin10, OpenRouter’s latest data estimates showed China’s AI models recorded 27.58 trillion tokens in weekly usage, a 17.61% week-on-week increase and the seventh consecutive weekly rise.

Over the same period, U.S. AI models logged 6.33 trillion tokens in weekly usage, up 47.9% from the prior week. The report said China’s weekly usage has exceeded the United States for 11 consecutive weeks and remained the highest globally.

The data also showed that the top six models by global usage last week were all China-based. Tencent Hy3 (free), described as being in a limited-time free phase, ranked first with weekly usage of 6.13 trillion tokens.
