Smartphone makers are further scaling back their entry-level product lineups and shifting their portfolios toward mid- to high-end models with higher profit margins as rising memory costs increase financial pressure.
According to Jin10, Omdia said that to meet consumers’ rising performance expectations for premium devices and to support higher retail prices, high-end and flagship smartphones are continuing to increase their storage configurations.
Jusy Hong, a senior research manager at Omdia, said this differentiated product strategy will further intensify polarization in smartphone storage configurations this year: high-end models will keep increasing storage capacity, while entry-level models face a trend toward reduced storage configurations.
