HDFC Bank Ends March Year With 3,343 Fewer Employees as Automation Expands

HDFC Bank cut its workforce by 3,343 in the March financial year, taking total headcount to 211,178 as of March 31 from 214,521 a year earlier. According to BeInCrypto, the biggest reductions were in operational roles, with non-supervisory workmen/clerical and subordinate staff down by more than 8,000 to 162,797, while new hiring slowed by 3,811. Middle-level headcount rose by 1,252, junior-level by 3,543, and senior management added 15 roles. CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan cited redeploying backend staff to customer-facing roles as routine tasks shift to Cash Recycler Machines and the bank’s Neev AI platform. Profit after tax rose 10.9% to ₹74,671.3 crore in FY26.
