According to Lianhe Zaobao citing Reuters, a commercial vessel was attacked off the coast of Oman on Sunday, July 12, and India’s Ministry of External Affairs said 10 of the 11 Indian nationals on board were rescued while one remains missing. The ministry identified the ship as the GFS Galaxy and said India’s embassy in Oman is monitoring developments and coordinating search-and-rescue efforts with Omani authorities. India condemned the attack but did not provide details on damage or the exact location.
Iran previously said it fired warning shots at a vessel that had deviated from an approved route, with gunfire hitting the hull, though it was unclear whether Iran was referring to the GFS Galaxy. Iran also announced on Sunday that it had closed the Strait and launched missiles and drones at neighboring Gulf countries in retaliation for a new round of U.S. airstrikes after Iranian forces attacked a commercial ship.
