The appointment comes despite a past dispute with England coach Thomas Tuchel, who criticized Turpin after a Bayern Munich vs Manchester City Champions League quarterfinal in 2023. Turpin has previously handled major matches including the 2021 Europa League final and the 2022 Champions League final, and he also refereed England’s 0-0 draw with Slovenia at Euro 2024.
