Jordan Henderson has refused to rule out a surprise return in the World Cup semi-finals after breaking his arm celebrating England’s 3-2 last-16 win over Mexico at Estadio Azteca, according to Yahoo Sports. Henderson, an unused substitute, slipped while trying to jump an advertising board after the match and was stretchered off after receiving treatment, including oxygen.

The 36-year-old has since had successful surgery on his left forearm and returned to the England squad rather than going home. He was included in England’s squad for the quarter-final against Norway, warmed up in Miami wearing a cast, and FIFA rules allow protective equipment such as a cast if it is soft, lightweight and not dangerous.
