Argentina’s football association said it may have been the target of a cyber attack after emails from its official accounts reportedly criticized refereeing in Argentina’s 3-2 World Cup last-16 win against Egypt, according to Yahoo Sports. The AFA said it detected possible emails sent from an institutional account that were not authorized and urged the public to dismiss unusual messages, especially those containing links, attachments or requests for personal information.
Argentina came from 2-0 down in Atlanta, with Egypt scoring through Yasser Ibrahim and Mostafa Zico before Cristian Romero pulled one back 11 minutes from time, Lionel Messi equalized five minutes later and Enzo Fernandez completed the comeback two minutes into injury time. The Egyptian Football Association asked FIFA to remove French referee Francois Letexier and his officiating team, alleging bias, and Egypt coach Hossam Hassan said his team had been treated unfairly; Argentina will face Switzerland on Sunday in the quarter-finals.
