According to Lianhe Zaobao citing Reuters and AFP, the Japan Meteorological Agency said Friday, July 10, that the El Nino phenomenon has persisted since spring and has a 100% chance of continuing through the Northern Hemisphere’s fall. AFP cited the World Meteorological Organization as saying in an early-month monthly report that El Nino has formed in the tropical Pacific and is expected to strengthen rapidly in coming months, increasing the likelihood of extreme weather events in many parts of the world; the organization expects this episode to reach the second-highest “strong” category.
