According to Lianhe Zaobao citing Yonhap, South Korea’s Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters said Friday (July 10) that heavy rain over the past two days left one person missing and damaged 453 facilities. The agency said a man in his 70s was swept away by fast-moving water after flooding in Seongnae-ri, Punggi-eup, Yeongju, North Gyeongsang Province on July 9, and firefighters and police were conducting search and rescue operations. Five landslides were reported in Okcheon County in North Chungcheong Province and in Yeongwol County in Gangwon Province, with no casualties reported.
The heavy rain prompted emergency evacuations of 508 households, totaling 758 people, across seven cities and provinces and 25 cities and counties. Cumulative rainfall from July 8 to 5 a.m. on July 10 included 267.1 mm in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province; 259 mm in Gyeryong, South Chungcheong Province; 244.5 mm in Sejong City; 236.5 mm in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province; and 226.5 mm in Cheongyang County, South Chungcheong Province.
