According to CNBC, the European Court of Justice upheld Google’s roughly 4.1 billion euro ($4.67 billion) antitrust fine tied to alleged anti-competitive practices involving the Android operating system, dismissing an appeal by Google and Alphabet and leaving no further right to appeal. The European Commission originally imposed the penalty in 2018, saying Google abused Android’s mobile dominance through pre-installation deals that favored its own apps; a lower EU court reduced the fine in 2022 from 4.34 billion euros to 4.1 billion euros. Alphabet shares were about 1% lower in premarket trading, and a Google spokesperson said the company disagreed with the ruling and had adapted its agreements to comply with the 2018 decision.
