According to Lianhe Zaobao citing Reuters, a wildfire in Spain’s southern Andalusia region had killed 12 people as of early Friday, July 10, the regional emergency management agency said. The agency said 150 firefighters were deployed and the military’s emergency rescue unit would also join the response. In Los Gallardos in Almeria province, some victims’ bodies were found inside cars. A local official in charge of health and emergencies, Sanz, called it an unprecedented tragedy. The report noted Spain’s wildfires burned up to 400,000 hectares last year, a record, and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez pledged in May to mobilize the largest-ever personnel deployment to tackle this year’s wildfire season.
