A NATO summit declaration on July 8 reaffirmed the alliance’s collective defense principle and said members will further raise defense spending, expand defense-industrial capacity and continue providing long-term military support to Ukraine, according to Jiemian News. The summit announced more than $50 billion in additional arms procurement and pledged to expand joint defense production while accelerating the military application of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence.
On Ukraine, the declaration said allies committed to provide €70 billion in military support in 2026 and to maintain at least the same level of support in 2027. The declaration also said NATO will continue addressing security challenges including strategic competition and hybrid threats, and reiterated that Iran “must never have nuclear weapons.”
