US stocks close: Nasdaq, S & P 500 hit new highs, Apple rose 7%

U.S. stocks closed Tuesday with the Dow initially down 120 points or 0.3 percent, the S & P 500 up 0.28 percent and the Nasdaq up 0.88 percent, the latter two hitting new closing highs. Apple (AAPL. O) rose 7.2 percent, with a market capitalization of nearly $3.20 trillion and a new high, NVIDIA (NVDA. O) fell 0.7 percent and GME. N (GME. N) rose more than 20 percent. The Nasdaq China Golden Dragon index closed down 1.59 percent, NIO (NIO. N) fell 5 percent and Alibaba (BABA. N) fell 1.7 percent.
