According to CNBC, the House Committee on Homeland Security and the House Select Committee on China said in April they will jointly investigate the growing adoption of Chinese-developed AI models by U.S. companies, and sent letters to Cursor and Airbnb as an initial step in the probe. A State Department spokesperson told CNBC the growing use of Chinese AI models by U.S. companies raises concerns, while China’s U.K. embassy spokesperson said the country opposes what it called baseless allegations. CNBC reported that Cursor, which will be acquired by Elon Musk’s SpaceX for $60 billion, built its Composer 2 model using the Chinese AI model Kimi developed by Moonshot AI, while Airbnb said its AI activity runs overwhelmingly on U.S.-origin models and that it uses a limited number of China-origin open-source models through approved U.S.-based service providers.
