The European Union has 21 authorized e-money token (EMT) issuers across 12 member states, collectively issuing 35 EMTs pegged to eight fiat currencies, according to interim registration data from the European Securities and Markets Authority.
According to ChainCatcher, Circle’s EU Strategy and Policy Senior Director Patrick Hansen cited ESMA’s MiCA interim registry and published the compliance tally one week after the regulation’s full implementation.
The data showed France leading with six licensed EMT issuers.
In contrast, the number of approved asset-referenced token (ART) issuers remained at zero, while the total number of registered crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) under the MiCA framework exceeded 270.
