Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation (MoCTI), Bhutan National Digital Identity Company (Bhutan NDI), and the SIGN Foundation have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly design, develop, and implement Sierra Leone’s national digital identity platform.

According to Foresight News, the platform will use open-source technology and W3C standards for verifiable credentials, with an emphasis on privacy protection, security, and data sovereignty.

The initiative is intended to help citizens manage and prove their identities securely and to improve the efficiency of public services.

Under the agreement, Sierra Leone’s MoCTI will provide strategic leadership, develop policies, and coordinate among government agencies.
