Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee met People’s Bank of China (PBOC) Governor Pan Gongsheng on July 6, 2026 to exchange views on economic and financial issues, according to Jiemian News. Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan and Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui also attended.
Lee said Hong Kong is working on its first five-year plan and will continue to promote financial market connectivity with the mainland and two-way capital flows. He also said the Hong Kong government is pushing to develop an international gold trading market, including establishing a Hong Kong central gold clearing system to attract spot gold storage, clearing and delivery in the city.
