South Korea Launches 24-Hour FX Trading, Extends Won-Dollar Hours

South Korea’s foreign exchange market began 24-hour trading from 6 a.m. on July 6, with won-dollar trading now running continuously from 6 a.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Saturday each week, according to Jiemian News. Under the new mechanism, trading will continue on South Korean public holidays, except weekends and January 1. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yun-cheol said the move marks a new starting point for the won’s globalization and is expected to enhance the appeal of South Korea’s capital markets and the won.
