Kingsoft Office (688111.SH) said it has never, and will not, convert existing free basic WPS functions into paid features, responding to online allegations of “overcharging” and “betraying users,” according to Jiemian News. The company said its paid memberships have been streamlined into two tiers—Super Member and Big Member—and that benefits have increased without shifting existing rights to higher-priced plans. It added that some high-cost third-party services and AI office agents are sold separately via standalone packages or usage-based pricing and are clearly separated from membership benefits.
The statement follows user complaints that WPS Office defaults to storing cache and backups on the Windows C drive and that cleanup options were unclear. WPS said it has completed checks and started optimizations, with a new version due to launch in July that adds installation path selection and a “storage management” module for viewing and clearing cache and backups. Kingsoft Office also said WPS cache cleanup and path changes have long been free, and that a paid “C-drive cleanup” tool targets third-party and system files beyond WPS.
In its latest results, Kingsoft Office reported Q1 2026 revenue of about 1.613 billion yuan, up 23.95% year-on-year, and net profit attributable to shareholders of about 2.195 billion yuan, up 444.97%.
