Cristiano Ronaldo said the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be his last, confirming the decision during a news conference ahead of Portugal’s Round of 16 match against Spain on Monday, according to Yahoo Sports. The 41-year-old Portugal captain said he wants to enjoy the tournament and added he remains committed to helping the national team whether he starts or not.
Portugal have started Ronaldo in all four of their matches at this World Cup, substituting him off once. The teams last met at the World Cup in 2018, drawing 3-3 in a match in which Ronaldo scored a hat-trick.
