June saw unusually strong activity in the ETF market, with net inflows, new launches, and trading volume all near or at record levels, according to Bloomberg senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas.

According to ChainCatcher, Balchunas wrote that the ETF market delivered a “JUNE-SANITY” performance in June, with multiple indicators approaching or setting historical highs.

Data cited by Balchunas showed ETF net inflows totaled $191 billion for the month, the second-highest monthly level on record. Average daily inflows were about $9 billion, spanning roughly 2,700 different funds.

Balchunas also reported that 214 new ETFs were launched in June, or about 10 per day, marking a record high for new product issuance. In addition, ETF trading turnover reached $7 trillion, the second-highest level historically.

Balchunas said the figures point to broad-based strength across inflows, product launches, and trading activity in the ETF market.
