China Merchants Energy Shipping said on July 5 that it expects net profit attributable to shareholders to reach RMB 6.6 billion to RMB 7.3 billion in the first half of 2026, up 214% to 248% year on year, according to 36Kr. The company cited changes in supply-demand dynamics and geopolitical factors, saying the international crude tanker market has entered a "super boom" cycle, with spot freight rates on some routes hitting record highs during the period. It also said the international dry bulk market benefited from continued supply-demand improvement, with the Baltic Dry Index (BDI) steadily rebounding. The tanker fleet is expected to deliver about a 50% quarter-on-quarter increase in profit contribution in Q2 after overcoming disruptions from strait blockades and a temporary oversupply, while the dry bulk segment is expected to post about a 170% QoQ increase in profit contribution. Container and ro-ro fleets also showed a steady recovery trend.
