Iran plans to levy service fees on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz in line with international standards, Iran’s ambassador to China Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said in Beijing on July 4 during the 14th World Peace Forum, according to Jiemian News. Fazli said the strait had remained open and unobstructed before the outbreak of the U.S.-Israel-Iran war, and Iran is not seeking to impose transit fees or tariffs. He said the planned charges would fund routine costs such as ensuring navigation safety, providing navigational services and environmental protection, adding that the approach is consistent with practices in other waterways.
