China’s State Administration for Market Regulation and the Ministry of Commerce have launched a public consultation on draft amendments to the E-Commerce Law of the People’s Republic of China, according to Ming Pao.
Officials from SAMR’s Online Supervision Department and the Ministry of Commerce’s E-Commerce Department said the proposed revisions are mainly aimed at supporting the needs of high-quality economic development. They said the changes are intended to guide platform-economy operators to shift from a “traffic-first” approach to “innovation-driven” development, and from competing on price to competing on quality, to better promote the development of new quality productive forces.
