The FIFA World Cup trophy now contains gold worth roughly $713,000, based on London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) calculations. According to BeInCrypto, spot gold is trading above $4,100 per ounce, more than double its price during the 2022 tournament in Qatar, lifting the melt value of the trophy’s 4.93 kilograms of pure gold by more than 150% from about $277,000.
Gold was near $1,600 per ounce in December 2022; the latest rise followed weak US jobs data that led traders to scale back expectations for further Fed rate hikes.
