Brazil’s central bank issued Resolution No. 580/2026, classifying companies that provide virtual asset services and the groups they lead as Category 3 institutions, subject to the same requirements as securities brokers, securities distributors, and foreign exchange brokers.
According to Odaily, the prudential requirements will apply starting January 1, 2027, including risk management rules, capital requirements, and information disclosure policies.
The report said that by June 30, 2028, virtual asset service providers will be included in Division 4 regardless of size and will not be eligible for the simplified compliance regime available to low-risk institutions in Division 5.
