Buc-ee’s expands mega gas-station model as Placer.ai data shows 20.8-minute average dwell time

According to CNBC, Texas-based Buc-ee’s has grown to more than 50 locations across 13 states as large-format gas stations expand food and retail offerings, with its biggest store in Texas topping 75,000 square feet and featuring more than 100 gas pumps. CNBC reported that imitators include Wally’s, which has three 50,000-square-foot locations in the Midwest with plans for more, and Dolly Parton’s Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop, which held a grand opening last week in Cornersville, Tennessee, as an 18-acre, 25,000-square-foot site with 16 pumps plus amenities including a dog park, theater, restaurant and bar, trucker showers, and a lounge. Placer.ai data cited by CNBC showed Buc-ee’s had the longest average in-store dwell time among convenience-store chains at 20.8 minutes, versus 11.7 minutes for Wawa and Sheetz and 9.8 minutes for 7-Eleven.
