Samsung and SK Hynix are seeking lower prices from substrate suppliers and have asked for reduced quotes in their latest price negotiations, according to the Korea Printed Circuit Board and Semiconductor Packaging Industry Association (KPCA).
According to Odaily, the two companies are considering withdrawing the average 3% to 4% price increase implemented in the first quarter of this year.
The report said Samsung and SK Hynix accepted the earlier price hikes due to rising raw material costs, including gold and copper, at the start of the year. However, with recent raw material price fluctuations easing, they believe the factors behind the increases have diminished and that pricing for the second half of the year should return to levels seen before the adjustments.
