Ripple co-founder and executive chairman Chris Larsen has reportedly invested in American Perpetuals Exchange Corp. (APEC), a derivatives trading platform founded by Theodore Gillibrand, the son of New York State Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

According to Foresight News, Cointelegraph reported that APEC has raised $30 million, with most investors contributing between $5,000 and $10,000. Larsen’s investment amount was not disclosed.

The report noted that Senator Gillibrand previously said lawmakers and government officials should not be allowed to profit from the industry due to insider status. In response, a spokesperson said Gillibrand has no involvement in her son’s business.
