Illinois has passed legislation that would levy a 0.2% tax on cryptocurrency transactions, drawing criticism from CFTC Chair Michael Selig.

According to NS3.AI, Governor JB Pritzker signed the Digital Asset Tax Act as part of the state’s FY2027 budget planning last month.

The measure is scheduled to take effect in January 2027.
