Onyx Protocol said it will deprecate and shut down Onyx Layer 3, also known as the XCN Ledger, on December 31, 2026, as it shifts development focus entirely to Onyx Layer 1.
According to Foresight News, Onyx said the transition will not change XCN itself.
The protocol said the Ethereum ERC-20 contract will remain the primary representation of XCN, and holders will continue to bridge assets between Ethereum and Onyx Layer 1 as needed.
As part of the transition, Onyx said XCN holders will be able to bridge their Ethereum-based XCN to Onyx Layer 1 to participate in staking, applications, and future network functions.
