Polygon founder Sandeep said the Polygon network has become net deflationary on a year-to-date basis in 2026, with more POL burned than newly minted. According to ChainCatcher, he posted on X that about 105.2 million POL were newly minted in 2026 year to date, while roughly 107.7 million POL were destroyed through the network’s base-fee burn mechanism.
Sandeep attributed the supply decline mainly to base-fee burns driven by high transaction volumes as Polygon operates as a payments-focused chain.
He also said Polygon’s transaction volume in May exceeded that of other public blockchains, with monthly transactions reaching 198 million.
