German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius rejected comments by U.S. President Donald Trump that NATO’s European allies should show unconditional loyalty to Washington.
According to Jin10, Pistorius said on Thursday that NATO is not about “blind obedience” and that decisions within the alliance are made through free, unanimous consultations among all member states rather than being determined unilaterally by any single country.
Pistorius also said he expected the United States would not level further criticism at Germany at the NATO summit scheduled for next week in Turkey, following a dispute between German Chancellor Merz and Trump over U.S. strategy in the Iran war.
