The United States has resumed airlifting U.S. dollar banknotes to Iraq after a pause of several months.
According to Jin10, The New York Times cited two aides to the Iraqi prime minister as saying the U.S. restarted the shipments after previously suspending them in an effort to pressure the Iraqi government to keep its distance from Iran.
The report said the Trump administration cut off dollar inflows in April this year, withholding revenue Iraq earned from oil sales. It added that Iraq’s economy relies heavily on cash transactions.
