The White House is accelerating efforts to set voluntary standards for the release of new artificial intelligence models, the Financial Times reported.

According to Jin10, the U.S. government has been in detailed talks with AI companies to develop the standards after it became involved in the deployment of frontier tools from firms including Anthropic and OpenAI.

People familiar with the discussions said the standards could be announced as soon as next week. They are expected to set benchmarks for models with advanced cyber capabilities and establish a release timetable aimed at streamlining future product launches.

The move is intended to implement an AI executive order issued last month by U.S. President Donald Trump, as groups involved seek clarity on how the government will regulate the technology.

One person familiar with White House discussions said the U.S. AI Standards and Innovation Center and the National Security Agency will play key roles in developing and overseeing the standards.

Sources also said U.S. officials will clarify which entities can access advanced models inside and outside the United States, a step that could lay the groundwork for a global framework that includes U.S. allies.
