Lotfolah Kaveh Afrasiabi filed a $1 billion lawsuit against FIFA, president Gianni Infantino and unnamed FIFA officials after Iran’s World Cup team was eliminated following a disallowed goal in a 1-1 draw with Egypt, according to Yahoo Sports. The complaint, filed June 30 in Boston federal court, seeks class-action status on behalf of up to 91 million Iranian nationals and/or Iranian-Americans and alleges FIFA’s VAR review wrongly ruled centre-back Shoja Khalilzadeh offside in the June 26 match, a decision the suit claims was discriminatory and cost Iran a place in the knockout stage as Egypt advanced.
