Iran said the United States violated commitments under a U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding and announced plans to set up an oversight group to review alleged breaches.
According to Jin10, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister and head of Iran’s technical negotiating delegation Gharibabadi said Iran raised and reviewed what it described as a U.S. violation of Article 1 of the memorandum, which he said concerned a commitment to end the fighting in Lebanon.
Gharibabadi said the Iranian delegation made the remarks during a trilateral meeting involving Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan held in Doha on July 1. He added that the talks also discussed reports about the United States strengthening regional military equipment and troop deployments, as well as what he described as threatening and interventionist statements by U.S. officials.
He said Iran emphasized during the meeting that the commitments in the memorandum should be treated as an integrated package and should not be viewed in isolation.
Gharibabadi said Iran would form a supervisory team and use direct communication channels to report on and review alleged violations related to the memorandum.
