U.K. officials said on Tuesday they may intervene in Paramount Skydance’s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, a deal valued at $110 billion, potentially delaying or blocking the transaction.
According to Jin10, the move could result in the deal being referred to the U.K.’s antitrust regulator for review.
The regulator previously drew attention in 2023 when it blocked Microsoft’s $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a decision that angered the two U.S. companies.
U.K. Culture Secretary Nandy, described as an ally of Andy Burnham, said the proposed media deal could affect news and streaming services in the United Kingdom. Burnham is expected to become the U.K.’s next prime minister in July.
