Marc Andreessen, co-founder of Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), joined the U.S. Defense Policy Board on June 29, putting the venture capitalist in an advisory role on U.S. national security strategy. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced the board, according to BeInCrypto, naming former U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer as chair and former Senator Norm Coleman as vice chair, with Andreessen among 13 additional members.
The Pentagon has not published financial disclosure requirements for the new board, while a16z holds positions in defense-adjacent companies Anduril, Shield AI, and Applied Intuition and recently closed its fifth crypto fund at $2.2 billion.
