Aztec, a privacy-focused Layer 2 network, has completed code development for its v5 protocol upgrade and is preparing to enter the governance proposal stage.

According to Foresight News, the v5 upgrade is described as the largest since the Alpha Network went live and includes changes across several core areas, including block construction, proving performance, penalty mechanisms, privacy protections, and the node API. The upgrade integrates 13 AZIPs.

Aztec said the deployment process for v5 will follow the same approach used for v4. Anyone can deploy the new contracts, and after the sequencer signals support, token holders will vote through governance. If approved, the upgrade will take effect after an execution delay.

Node operators can deploy v5 nodes in advance and keep them on standby, with activation occurring automatically once the upgrade is executed.
