Robinhood said all U.S. children under 18 with a valid Social Security number are eligible to open a Trump account. It added that eligible children born from 2025 to 2028 will receive $1,000 in initial funding provided by the U.S. Treasury.
Robinhood said family members, friends, and employers can collectively contribute up to $5,000 per year, and described the account as designed for long-term investing.
The Trump account, also known as a 530A account, is a tax-deferred investment account program authorized by then-U.S. President Donald Trump on June 9, 2025, under the “Big and Beautiful” bill. The program is intended to establish government-funded savings accounts for U.S. citizen children born between January 1, 2025, and January 1, 2029.
Robinhood said BNY Mellon is the designated financial agent for the Trump account, while Robinhood serves as the designated broker and initial trustee.
